🌿 Natural Sand as Filter Media

Filtration Principles & Benefits

Natural sand, primarily composed of high-purity silica, is a proven filter medium that effectively removes suspended particles, turbidity, and even microorganisms through physical, biological, and chemical processes. When water passes through a bed of graded, angular sand, contaminants are trapped within the granular matrix. Over time, beneficial microbes colonize the bed—especially in slow sand systems—forming a biofilm that actively degrades organic matter.

Key benefits include

  • High efficiency: Removes solids ranging from 10–100 μm and, with proper configuration, even finer particles.

  • Durable & cost-effective: Silica sand is hard, long-lasting, and economical over its service life.

  • Low maintenance: Simple periodic backwashing restores performance. Slow sand models may only need periodic surface scraping.

  • Eco-friendly: No chemicals are required in basic operation, and the media is natural and non-toxic

🏭 Industrial & Municipal Applications

  • Municipal & Drinking Water Treatment
Widely used in rapid- and slow-sand filters to meet drinking water standards—effectively reducing turbidity, pathogens, colors, and odors

  • Industrial Process & Wastewater Treatment
In sectors like manufacturing, pulp & paper, power generation, and chemical plants, sand filters remove suspended solids before further treatment, protecting downstream equipment and ensuring regulatory compliance

  • Swimming Pools & Sports Arenas
Sand filters are the industry standard for pool water circulation—capable of filtering large volumes with low operational and maintenance overhead.

  • Aquaculture & Equine Facilities
Used in fish farms and aquatic exhibits to remove feed waste and silt, sand filters help maintain clean water and reduce ammonia, benefiting animal health. In horse stables and racecourses, they support efficient drainage and prevent clogging of irrigation or wash areas.

  • Golf Courses & Irrigation Systems
Sand filters purify irrigation water, preventing nozzle blockages and ensuring even turf hydration

  • Construction & Drainage Applications
Beyond water purification, sand serves as backfill around underground piping, providing filtration, structural support, and drainage.

NATURAL SAND FILTER MEDIA

Natural Sand filter

The 0.6–1.18 mm (16/30) natural sand filter media is a precisely graded, high-purity granular material specifically developed for use as a primary filtration medium in various water treatment applications. Sourced from naturally occurring, select silica deposits, this sand exhibits exceptional uniformity, a high silica content, and a sub-angular to rounded grain shape, ensuring optimal filtration performance and long-term chemical stability. Its specific grain size is ideal for efficiently capturing fine suspended solids, turbidity, and colloidal particles while maintaining excellent permeability, making it a cornerstone for producing high-quality filtered water for diverse municipal, industrial, and commercial uses. This Size is specifically used in Golf Courses.

2 - 4 mm Filter Sand

The 1.18–2 mm (10/16) natural sand filter media is a meticulously graded, high-purity granular material designed primarily for use as a support or intermediate layer in multi-media and deep-bed filtration systems, as well as a standalone coarse sand filter. Sourced from naturally occurring silica deposits, this sand exhibits excellent uniformity and a high silica content, ensuring optimal hydraulic characteristics and long-term chemical stability. Its specific grain size facilitates efficient particulate removal while maintaining superior permeability, making it ideal for robust water purification applications where both filtration efficiency and drainage are critical. This size is used by the  railways for wheel-to-rail traction.

2 - 4 mm Filter Sand

Overview:
Natural sand with a particle size range of 2–4 mm is a highly efficient and commonly used granular filter media in water and wastewater treatment systems. Sourced from riverbeds, quartz-rich deposits, or processed sand quarries, this media is prized for its natural hardness, uniform granule size, chemical inertness, and excellent filtration capability.

2 - 4 mm Filter Sand

Overview:
Natural sand in the 4–6 mm size range is widely used as a support media in multi-layered filtration systems. Known for its hardness, chemical stability, and excellent support strength, it plays a vital role in preventing migration of finer media and ensuring uniform water distribution. This gravel-sized filter media is commonly used in pressure filters, rapid sand filters, and multimedia filters in both municipal and industrial setups.

Silex Filter Sand

Natural sand with a grain size of 6–12 mm is commonly used as a support gravel layer in multi-media filtration systems. Positioned at the bottommost layer of the filter bed, this coarse material provides structural integrity, ensures efficient drainage, and prevents migration of finer media like sand and anthracite during filtration and backwash cycles. It is valued for its uniformity, mechanical strength, and inert nature, making it ideal for use in both industrial and municipal water treatment applications.

Mixed Sand Filter Media

The 12–20 mm natural sand gravel is a coarse-grade filter media commonly used as the bottom support layer in multimedia and pressure filtration systems. Its primary function is to facilitate drainage, maintain structural integrity, and prevent the migration of upper filtration layers. This gravel layer ensures that the finer filter media above it stay in place during high-velocity filtration and aggressive backwashing, thereby extending the life and improving the performance of the entire filtration system.

Gravel Filter Media

The 20–25 mm natural pebbles are large-sized granular filter media primarily used as the final base support layer in deep-bed and multi-layer filtration systems. These rounded or semi-rounded silica-based pebbles form the foundation of the filter bed, providing maximum stability, robust drainage, and support for upper media layers such as sand, anthracite, and finer gravels. Their inert and hard-wearing nature makes them ideal for use in high-load, high-flow industrial and municipal filtration setups.

Pebbles Filter Media

The 25–40 mm natural pebbles are a robust, large-sized granular filter media specifically engineered for use as the foundational base support layer in deep-bed and multi-layer filtration systems. These well-rounded or semi-rounded, highly durable, silica-based pebbles form the indispensable bottommost stratum of the filter bed. They are crucial for providing unparalleled stability, ensuring efficient drainage, and offering strong mechanical support for the overlying media layers, such as finer gravels, sand, and anthracite. Their inert chemical composition and exceptional hardness make them perfectly suited for demanding applications in high-load, high-flow industrial, municipal, and large-scale water treatment setups.
